CAIRO – 24 December 2017: “Alashan Tbneeha” (To Build It), a public campaign calling for President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to run for a second term, collected more than 12 million signatures from citizens," announced the campaign founders in a press conference on Sunday.

"The campaign collected valid 12, 132, 460 signatures, while a total of 239,361 signed forms were null and void," they added. Launched in mid-September, "To Build It" aims to collect signatures in support of President Sisi, urging him to run for a second term as the Head of State.

“The campaign is organizing this conference three months after it has been launched to update all people on the campaign accomplishments,” the campaign member Ahmed al-Khatib said at the conference, adding that they have 27 headquarters nationwide to campaign for Sisi.

On October 29, the founders collected 3,770,300 signatures from citizens, adding that 200 members of Parliament have joined the campaign.

The campaign started its international tour in early December to promote Sisi’s achievements during his first term as president abroad.

In June 2014, President Sisi came to power in the aftermath of the June 30, 2013, popular uprising which toppled former Muslim Brotherhood affiliated President Mohamed Morsi.

The National Elections Authority is currently setting the presidential elections timeline and is expected to begin receiving applications in late January or early February. "The president-elect is expected to be announced by May 3," a judicial source told Egypt Today on Saturday.
