CAIRO – 20 December 2017: The parliament referred to a draft legislation regulating the operation of traffic lights across Egypt and demanded to further review the draft before presenting it in the upcoming general session for discussion. The bill was initially submitted by Parliamentarian Silvia Nabil.

Nabil said that the bill aims to limit the presence of traffic controllers in the streets who are frequently stationed next to the traffic lights. It also entails the establishment of an interior ministry-led operation room in each public traffic department to be responsible with operating and monitoring the traffic lights.

Traffic lights have already been installed a very long time ago but as it stands, no laws have been issued regulating their operation, the draft bill reads, adding that the new bill also aims at moving traffic controllers to other areas.
