CAIRO - 18 December 2017: Border guards detected and destroyed four tunnel openings used in smuggling people, ammunition and arms along borders in North Sinai.

In December, the Armed Forces destroyed three 4×4 vehicles and seized 1.44 million narcotic tablets, 866kg of cannabis and 5,400kg of hashish, according to a statement by the army on Monday.

The forces also seized 187 persons of different nationalities while attempting to illegally cross the borders.

Military operations in Sinai come as part of army's efforts to secure the country's borders and foil schemes aiming at jeopardizing Egypt's national security.
