CAIRO – 11 December 2017: Kristalina Georgieva, chief executive officer of the World Bank, praised President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and the government for their efforts to reform Egypt in an interview Sunday December 10.

“What I would like to do is first to recognize how brave President Sisi and the government have been in reforming Egypt so it can be a more attractive place for domestic investment and for foreign direct investments,” Georgieva stated in an interview with TV presenter Sherif Amer on MBC Masr.

Georgieva said that she will discuss with Sisi how the World Bank can help in terms of addressing some of the most serious problems in urban development and environment. She will also discuss how the World Bank can be “helpful in building new cities in Egypt, and making them smart and green.”

Georgieva promised to tackle some of the problems in Egypt that have been undermining the quality of life of people. She will also discuss ways to continue to “support the reforms by focusing on those that are least, at this moment of time, benefiting from the economy here.”

Arriving in Egypt on December 1, Georgieva attended the Africa 2017 Forum held in Sharm El-Sheikh, in the presence of Sisi. On Saturday December 9, Georgieva and the Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Waly visited several projects in Luxor.
