CAIRO – 9 December 2017: Italian Senate speaker Petro Grosso discussed with the Egyptian Ambassador to Italy Hisham Badr ways to boost mutual cooperation, especially in the area of fighting terrorism.

In that score, both parties agreed upon the need for enacting stronger laws to obfuscate the spread of terrorism, particularly in the ideological domain.

Badr explained that both parties share common visions on several issues of common interest such as combating illegal immigration, and also underscored the importance of coordinating efforts to tackle the Libyan issue and to get all parties involved at the table for good faith negotiations to eventually achieve the long-desired stability.

For his part, Grosso expressed Italy's solidarity with Egypt in its fight against terrorism, pointing out that Egypt's stability is key for the Mediterranean and Middle East countries, including Italy.

Earlier in December, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry participated in the Mediterranean Dialogue (MED) Forum which was held under the sponsorship of the Italian Institute for International Political Studies and was aiming at tackling issues relating to pressing regional challenges, including fighting terrorism and undermining its proliferation.
