CAIRO – 7 December 2017: Egyptian presidential spokesperson Bassam Rady said that the urgent meeting of the United Nation’s Security Council on Friday morning will discuss international refusal for the American declaration officially announcing Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

He added in statements to ON Live channel on Thursday morning that the situation in Egypt is stable as has been known for a very long time. “We were one of the pioneer countries that adopted the Palestinian cause and defended it through history,” Rady stated.

He asserted that President Donald Trump’s announcement represents a severe violation of international agreements and stances.

“We will try to use international refusal and the enraged stances in favor of the Palestinian cause,” Rady added in his statements, affirming that any coming steps should exceed mere discussions as everything has become clear to everyone regarding the Palestinian case.

Shortly after Trump’s declaration Wednesday night, Egypt expressed its denouncement of the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the U.S. embassy there.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign affairs issued a statement assuring that such a unilateral decision is a violation of international legislation resolutions, adding that this would not change the legal posture of Jerusalem, which is already under occupation.

On Wednesday night, United States President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel during a televised speech from the White House.

"It is the headquarters of many government ministries. For many years, visiting American diplomats met their Israeli counterparts in Jerusalem. It is now the heart of one of the most successful democracies in the world," Trump stated.
