CAIRO – 7 December 2017: Interior Ministry foiled an attempt at Bir Al-Abed in North Sinai to detonate an explosive device containing a quarter ton of highly explosive materials T.N.T on Thursday, according to the Security Information Center at the Ministry of Interior.

Security forces could surround the area where the explosive device was found and could foil it.

The Interior Ministry declared a state of high alert nationwide on November 25 in the aftermath of the terror attack that targeted Al-Rawda mosque in Bir Al-Abed, North Sinai, which left 305 dead, including 27 children, and 128 others wounded.

Security sources told MENA that security was stepped up to highest level in all governorates.

The sources added that security was beefed up in the vicinity of worshiping places, vital facilities, police stations and places of gatherings.

Security forces have also been ordered to be vigilant and strict against any attempt to break the law, the sources noted.

The number of mobile and fixed convoys was increased to confront any terrorist or security threat, according to the sources.
