CAIRO – 12 March 2017: Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi hosted a delegation of journalists from 25 African countries Saturday. He confirmed the essential role of African media and Egypt’s desire to reinforce relations with other states on the continent.

In the meeting, organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, Sisi stressed that Egypt is adopting an open policy towards all African countries, relying on the principles of non-intervention in the affairs of African states, respecting their sovereignty and reinforcing cooperation between Egypt and the states of the continent, presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef said in an official statement.

Sisi referred to the central role of African media in increasing the awareness of the continent’s citizens and highlighting the common challenges facing African countries as well as the means to deal with them.

Egypt has been holding periodical meetings with African journalists since its membership in the African Union was unfrozen in June 2014. The union suspended Egypt’s membership following the events of June 30 that toppled Former President Mohamed Morsi, citing a need to restore "constitutional order.”

African journalists expressed their appreciation for Egypt’s role and the continuous support it offers its African brothers. They praised Egypt’s return to its leading role in Africa, Youssef said.
