CAIRO - 4 December 2017: The Interior Ministry has said that five terrorists were killed, while six others were arrested in an expanded security campaign in three governorates.

In a statement on Monday, the ministry underlined that the campaign comes as part of efforts exerted to uproot terrorist organizations that aim at destabilizing the country.

Security bodies managed to pinpoint a hotbed for the terrorists in a desert area located between 10th of Ramadan and Belbis cities in Sharqia governorate, the statement read.

They took one of the huts as a shelter to train extremists on shooting.

During a shootout, five terrorists were killed, while four automatic rifles, a huge amount of ammunition and three explosive charges were found.

Meanwhile, terrorist elements were chased between Cairo and Assiut governorates as they were plotting to target vital institutions, the statement said.

Six of those extremists were detained as two pistols and ammunition were found in their possession.

Legal measures were taken, while State Security Prosecution will open a probe.
