CAIRO – 4 December 2017: Culture Minister Helmy al-Namnam and Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish will inaugurate on Monday evening the Historical Gallery of Suez Canal at the Ismailia Cultural Palace, Al-Ahram reported.

Mamish and Ismailia Governor Yassin Taher will be honored following the inauguration. In addition, an artistic gallery entitled “History of Nation 1859-2017” will launch.

"The gallery has a number of historical paintings of the Suez Canal," Maher Kamal, the head of Canal and Sinai cultural region, said.

The construction of the Suez Canal started in September 1859. In November, Nicolas, a descendent of the late French diplomat and the developer of the Canal, Ferdinand de Lesseps, visited the Historical Gallery.
