AL, Al Azhar to hold conference on extremism's impact on cultural heritage

CAIRO - 3 December 2017: The general secretariat of the Arab League (AL) in cooperation with Al Azhar will hold a conference on Monday on the negative impact of extremism on the future of Arab cultural heritage.

The conference will include working sessions that tackle a number of issues topped by "the aspects of the cultural heritage and its effect on facing extremism and enhancing the society's identity".

The event will take up also "the role of state institutions, civil society organizations, media and education in encountering terrorism".

The sessions will be presided over by a number of figures including the Head of Bibliotheca Alexandrina Moustafa el Feky, Al Azhar Undersecretary Abbas Shoman and members of the AL general secretariat as well as diplomats.

In a statement on Sunday, the AL general secretariat said that organizing the conference comes in implementation of the recommendations of the concluding statement of the Arab Cultural Heritage Day celebrated on February 26.
