CAIRO – 3 November 2017: Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb phoned Pope Tawadros of Alexandria and Patriarch of the Sea of St. Mark on Saturday, following a surgery undergone by the latter.

The Pope recently underwent a backbone surgery in Germany. Tayeb was reassured about the Pope’s health and expressed happiness that Pope Tawadros is recuperating well. Tayeb wished the Pope a speedy recovery and hoped for his return to Egypt in full health.

Pope Tawadros also received a phone call in November from President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, who wished him a speedy recovery.

In consolidation with Egyptian Muslims, Pope Tawadros condemned the attack that targeted Rawdah Mosque in Arish, North Sinai during the Friday prayers on November 24, killing 305 people, according to General Prosecutor Nabil Sadeq. “We pray for the victims of the terrorist attack,” the Pope added.
