CAIRO – 13 March 2017: Egypt’s Attorney General approved the release of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak Monday, a week after his acquittal on charges of killing protesters during the 2011 January 25 Revolution that saw him removed from power. However, he is still banned from leaving the country,

Mubarak’s defense lawyer Farid El-Deeb told media outlets that the former president can leave the military hospital where he has been detained and return home if his doctors say it is safe for his health, adding that he applied for Mubarak’s release at the prosecution office last week.

Mubarak was cleared of murder charges in his final trial this month, preceded by various trials on charges ranging from corruption to murder.

Deeb added that the prosecution office subtracted the years Mubarak has already served in prison from the time he was meant to serve for another case in which he was found guilty of misusing public money to maintain Presidential Palaces.
