CAIRO – 1 December 2017: Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya and Morocco’s foreign ministers have signed a joint declaration for a student exchange program, Friday on the sideline of Rome’s third edition of the Mediterranean Dialogue Forum for 2017.

Erasmus+ Student Exchange program was signed by the seven countries as a move that aims to enhance the cultural and civilizational frameworks between the north and south of the Mediterranean, an official statement issued by the foreign ministry’s spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid mentioned.

“The declaration reflects the importance of students’ dialogue in spreading acceptance and tolerance along with rejecting the culture of violence and extremism,” Abu Zeid said in his statement. He added that the declaration also includes implementing several procedures regarding developing the student exchange programs between signed countries.

Abu Zeid has posted several tweets on his official Twitter account for Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry along with his Tunisian, Algerian, Italian and Tunisian counterparts as they were having an unofficial dialogue before the signing.

Shoukry traveled to Rome, Italy to attend the Mediterranean Dialogue Forum on Thursday morning.

This forum was launched originally for the first time in 2015 to establish high-level discussions between the countries of the north and south of the Mediterranean on the common challenges and crises that threaten the region’s security and stability.
