CAIRO – 6 March 2017: The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza strip will be opened from Monday to Wednesday to allow the passage of those stranded on both sides, Aswat Masriya reported, quoting a governmental announcement.

The crossing will be opened to allow the passage of those seeking medical treatment, humanitarian cases and holders of foreign residencies, the official website of the Palestinian embassy in Cairo stated.

The embassy expressed its gratitude to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and the authorities for their efforts to “alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.”

Egypt closed Rafah crossing in 2014 following attacks by extremists that killed 33 soldiers in North Sinai. Since then the crossing has been opened periodically to facilitate the passage of humanitarian cases.

The crossing was last opened on Feb. 11, according to the Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA).
