CAIRO – 29 November 2017: Deputy Head of the parliament's Telecommunication and Information Technology Committee Ahmed Badawy said that more than 3,000 websites will be banned after approving the electronic crime law.

The law aims to ban unofficial websites especially the ones that incite violence and terrorism or publish false news reports. The law will be introduced in the parliament’s plenary meeting soon.

Referring to the Fourth Generation Warfare, Badawy said that false news stories are circulated even more than true ones that focus on positive issues. "According to the Interior Ministry’s statistics, electronic crimes exceed criminal offenses by 71 percent," Badawy added.

"The committee demanded that owners of the websites inciting terrorism should face sentences that could reach death or life imprisonment," Badawy stated.

Nidal al-Said, head of the committee said earlier that the law aims to face rumors that spread through unknown pages, and allow true information to be delivered to citizens.
