CAIRO – 28 November 2017: University Students’ Union’s elections for the academic year 2017-2018 will be held across Egyptian universities following a year of absence; after former Minister of Higher Education Asharf al-Sheehy decided to resolve the Egyptian Students’ Union in December 2016.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced that students would be able to run for the elections starting Wednesday.

Initial lists would be announced on December 3, meanwhile the first and second rounds would be held on December 10 and 11.

The last university students’ elections held were for the academic year 2015-2016, after four years of suspension. Many attributed the resolving of the Students’ Union to political reasons.
