CAIRO – 19 November 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received a delegation from the Protestant community leaders celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said.


Sisi congratulated the delegation, led by Andrea Zaki, head of the Protestant community in Egypt, on the occasion of the Protestant Reformation anniversary; asserting Egypt's keenness to strengthen the bridges of communication and understanding between different religions and sects.


Sisi expressed the state's keenness to uphold the principle of citizenship and facilitate a culture of acceptance, pointing out that Egypt will always be a model of peaceful coexistence.


On their part, the Protestant leaders expressed their appreciation of Egypt’s efforts in establishing stability and moderate values in the Middle East and its desire to provide a model for peaceful coexistence between religions.


They also praised Egypt's efforts in curtailing extremist ideology and calling for tolerance and acceptance.


During the meeting, Sisi discussed with the Protestant leaders ways to strengthen international efforts to spread tolerance, coexistence and acceptance of the other and the establishment of peace.


They stated that the international community should enhance its efforts in dealing with terrorism.
