CAIRO – 18 November 2017: North Sinai students will be exempted from school tuitions, Minister of Education and Technical Training Tarek Shawki announced Friday.

The decision came following a request made by governor of North Sinai, Major General Abdel Fattah Harhour, to grant financial facilitation to residents of the governorate.

The minister further added that the decision followed putting into consideration what residents of the governorate are going through as Egyptian security forces have been battling a North Sinai-based Islamist insurgency that intensified following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in 2013.

It is pertinent to mention that a previous Education Ministry decision exempted students of Sheikh Zuweid and Rafah from paying school tuitions.
