CAIRO –18 November 2017: Egyptian authorities opened on Saturday its border crossing “Rafah” with Gaza strip, allowing the passage of travelers in both directions.

According to the independent Palestinian newspaper Sama, the Egyptian side apprised the Palestinian party that the opening of the Rafah crossing will likely be permanent.

The opening of the Rafah crossing is the first since the Egyptian-sponsored reconciliation of the Palestinian two main political parties, Fatah and Hamas.

In October, the rival Palestinian movements Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation agreement in Cairo under Egypt’s auspices. The Palestinian National Authority is due to resume control of the Gaza Strip by December 1, as per the reconciliation agreement.
