CAIRO – 16 November 2017: During the past few days, law enforcement forces of the Third Field Army killed three militant suicide bombers, arrested 74 others and destroyed five four-wheel vehicles.

Military spokesman Tamer el-Refae further added that the armed forces also destroyed four ED explosives facilities where an underground fuel storage depot was found inside.

In an aim to tighten control of ground crossings and borders, two individuals carrying radios, forged passports, satellite communications and large amounts of money were arrested along one of the crossings leading to North Sinai.

Also, a transport vehicle loaded with a number of motorcycle spare parts and materials used in the manufacture of improvised explosive devices was impounded, along with a pick-up truck packed with large amounts of narcotics and hashish.

North Sinai has been a staging ground for militants operating in Egypt for decades. It is also home to the Islamic State’s Egyptian branch, which has been primarily targeting Christians and security forces in the area
