CAIRO – 16 November 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry tackled recent developments in Libya with his Tunisian and Algerian counterparts, Abdelkader Messahel and Khemaies Jhinaoui, in Cairo on Wednesday.

The tripartite meeting on Libya kicked off aiming to reach a comprehensive solution to the Libyan crisis.

The three ministers reaffirmed their countries' firm stance to support efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, assuring their adherence to dialogue as the sole basis for settling the Libyan crisis and rejecting any form of foreign interference in Libya.

They expressed their appreciation for the efforts of U.N. Libya Envoy Ghassan Salama, hailing the political plan that he presented to address the Libyan crisis. They also urged all Libyan parties to show sufficient flexibility during the ongoing negotiations.

In this context, the ministers reviewed the efforts exerted by Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia in the recent period to bring together all Libyan parties and called them to refrain from using violence or resorting to any form of inciteful rhetoric or escalatory measures.

The ministers also discussed the latest security developments in Libya, warning of the danger of continued deterioration of the security situation in Libya.

They stressed the importance of continuing and supporting security coordination and exchange of information, as well as strengthening cooperation among them in the field of combating terrorism.

By the end of the meeting, they also agreed to continue their consultations and hold their next meeting in Tunisia.
