NICOSIA – 15 November 2017: Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades highlighted relations with Egypt, saying they developed after President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi came to power.

The Cypriot president's statements were made when he received newly-appointed Egyptian Ambassador May Taha Khalil who presented her credentials to him.

He pointed out that he visited Egypt six times since the 30 June revolution in 2013, praising his relationship with President Sisi and describing him as a brother.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry said the Egyptian ambassador hailed political coordination between the two countries at regional and international gatherings and the mechanisms of cooperation with Greece which would contribute to boosting security and stability in the region.

The ambassador explained to the Cypriot president Egypt's viewpoint towards the issue of terror combat.

The Foreign Ministry's statement said President Sisi would visit Cyprus on November 20 in the first ever state visit by an Egyptian president to Cyprus.
