CAIRO – 14 November 2017: Two Egyptian nationals lodging in Zaitoun district of Cairo were arrested on Monday over charges of communicating with the Islamic State group (IS).

The said defendants, who are currently facing charges of affiliating and communicating with a terrorist group, were immediately referred to the General Prosecution which thereby opened extensive investigations on the matter.

For almost four years now and especially since the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohammed Morsi, the Islamic State has conducted several attacks on Egyptian soil, particularly against Christians whom they believe are infields and should be driven out of the region.

On May 26, an armed group affiliated with IS opened fire on a bus carrying more than 50 Christians in Minya, killing 29 and injuring many others, including children
