CAIRO – 13 November 2017: The Libyan Government of National Accord’s Presidency Council addressed Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry to appoint Saleh Al-Shmakhi as Charge d'affairs to the Libyan Embassy in Cairo.

Upon receiving the ministry's approval, Shmakhi will also assume his duties as Libya's representative to the League of Arab States until the Egyptian Foreign Ministry responds to the candidacy of former Minister Mohamed Abdul Aziz as the ambassador of Libya to Egypt.

"The Government of National Accord, being the state's supreme executive power, and out of strengthening the bilateral friendly ties between Egypt and Libya, we hereby appointed Mr. Saleh Al-Shmakhy as Charge d'affairs until we receive further notice from the Egyptian Foreign Minister concerning the candidacy of former Minister Mohamed Abdul Aziz as the ambassador of Libya in Cairo," stated the appointment letter of the council, dated November 5, as sent to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

Meanwhile, the Tripoli Foreign Ministry has asked Libya’s ambassador to the Arab League, Saleh Al-Shmakhi, to take charge of the embassy in Cairo and to specifically focus his attention on the wellbeing of the Libyan community in Egypt.
