CAIRO – 12 November 2017: The Egyptian military forces celebrated the 103rd anniversary of the end of World War I (1914- 1918), during which hundreds of thousands of soldiers were killed, according to a statement from the Egyptian Ministry of Defense.

Head of the Egyptian Military Research Agency, which is affiliated to the Ministry of Defense, Reda Fadel, gave a speech on Egyptian soldiers’ role in the war. The First World War was fought by the Allies (France, the British Empire and the Russian Empire) and the Central Powers (Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria) from 1914 until November 11, 1918.

In the ceremony, a documentary about Egypt’s role and support to the Allies during the war was screened.

A vast number of Egyptian martyrs were buried in European graves, and most of them were awarded Victoria Cross, which is considered one of the highest British military medals.

On the sideline of this ceremony, an exhibition of photos and secret documents on Egyptian soldiers, declassified from British, French and European universities’ archive, was held.

The ceremony saw the participation of several Armed Forces leaders and students of military colleges.
