CAIRO – 8 November 2017: During her speech, Minoush Abdel-Maguid, co-founder, chief investment officer, and managing director at Union Capital Incorporated, stressed that there are difficult challenges facing women in all fields.

Women’s role in decision-making processes was highlighted in Wednesday’s World Youth Forum session, titled “Women’s Role in Decision-Making Circles.”

She further stressed that women can make better leaders than men given their ability to better function in groups and work under pressure, pointing out that equality between men and women has become a must in developing countries, noting that 60 percent of micro-credit programs aim for women’s development.

Abdel-Maguid was featured on Forbes’ 2011 list of Africa's 100 Most Powerful Women.

Anoka Primrose, the first Sri Lankan elected to the UN World Youth Consultative Council in 2015, said that the representation of women in Sri Lankan public life is a massive issue as women prefer to stand aloof of the positions associated with the decision-making processes.

In Ukraine, 80 percent of nongovernmental organizations work on women-development projects and only 20 percent of Ukrainian women have been given the chance to work in governmental entities; said a Ukrainian women rights activist during her speech at the same session.

On the issue of women’s issues in Sri Lanka, Primrose explained during the session that the heads of state in her country usually come from a political family, which highlights the need for women to become more engaged in decision-making circles and be given more legislative rights.

Meanwhile, UN Women representatives attending the session praised the Egyptian government’s efforts to empower females, declaring the current year to be the Egyptian woman’s year.
