ROME - 7 November 2017: Grand Imam of Al Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders Ahmad el Tayyeb held a meeting on Tuesday with Pope Francis of the Vatican at the papal headquarters in the Vatican.

A statement issued by Al Azhar said the meeting dealt with common issues between Al Azhar and the Vatican for supporting international peace.

The Grand Imam is due to meet with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and will participate in the third world forum in Rome, dubbed "East and West towards civilized dialogue".

He will also meet a number of Italian officials in order to discuss ways of spreading the culture of peace and coexistence and renouncing extremism and Islamophobia.

He will address the issue of dialogue among civilizations in his upcoming speech at the Palace of the Chancellery in Rome.

Men of Religion and number of members of the Muslim Council will participate in a panel discussion on "Religions and the National State".
