CAIRO – 2 November 2017: Police officer Mohamed al-Haies successfully underwent his first surgery and is currently preparing for his second one, a close family member of the officer said on Wednesday.

He contended that the health condition of Haies is stable, adding that visitations are currently not permitted as per the doctor’s recommendation.

On Tuesday, Haies, who was believed to be taken as a hostage at the hands of militants embroiled in the Giza-Wahat shootout that left 17 officers killed and led to the death of 15 militants, was freed by military forces that launched a retaliation attack against the militants, obliterating them.

After being liberated, Haies was immediately transferred to a military hospital, where he is receiving necessary medical treatment.
