CAIRO – 25 October 2017: The Court of Cassation on Wednesday upheld a ruling by the criminal court sentencing a police officer and five non-commissioned officers to different terms in jail over beating to death a citizen in the Upper Egyptian city of Luxor.

First Lieutenant Samir Hany was sentenced to seven years in jail while the five other co-defendants were handed down three years in jail.

The criminal court had issued its ruling in July after finding them guilty of beating to death a worker called Shabib Rashidi inside Luxor police station after he was arrested on charges of possessing drugs.
