CAIRO – 23 October 2017: The head of the Egyptian Parliament's Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee, Bahaa al-Din Abu Shoqa, said to Egypt Today on Monday that the Egyptian people would win the battle against terrorism and that terrorists will not achieve their goal of “striking” the country.

"In the June 30 revolution, Egyptians accepted the challenge. They knew that they would have to defend the country and fight for it, and they will not let it fall like Libya, Syria and Yemen did," Abu Shoqa added.

Comparing the current war against terrorism to previous wars in Egyptian history; Abu Shoqa explained that a few days after Egypt's defeat to Israel in 1967, military operations were conducted against the enemy and Egypt was announced victorious in the 1973 October War.

"Egypt has always been known as 'the grave of its invaders.' The Egyptian people have never surrendered in any war they have entered. The war against terrorism is ongoing," Abu Shoqa stressed.

On Friday, 17 security personnel were killed and 15 others were injured during a raid on a militant hideout near the Giza-Al Wahat Road in the Giza governorate, according to security sources. The news was received with deep sorrow, anger and demands for retaliation nationwide.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi instructed on Sunday all concerned authorities to exert their utmost efforts to pursue the terrorists who carried out the attack.
