CAIRO – 21 October 2017: The Yemeni Embassy in Cairo strongly condemned the killing of policemen in a shootout in the desert of Wahat on Friday.

Yemeni Ambassador Mohamed Ali Murad stated to Egypt Today his condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and the governments and people of the two countries. He wished the injured a quick recovery.

“Yemen stands firmly with Egypt and will continue to stand with Egypt and the Egyptian government and people as they battle terrorism,” the ambassador added.

Sixteen Egyptian security personnel were killed and injured Friday during a raid on a militant hideout in Wahat.

The Interior Ministry said on Friday that security forces are still combing Wahat Road in search of runaway terrorists.

In a statement, the ministry added that the National Security Service was informed of a terrorist hideout in the Wahat area.

Security forces clashed and exchanged fire with the terrorists, leaving a number of them dead or wounded.
