CAIRO - 20 October 2017: The Jordanian flag was flown at half mast on Saturday in the Royal Hashemite Court in remembrance of the death of dozens of Egyptian police personnel killed during confrontations with militants in an oasis in the Western Desert on Friday.

Jordanian king Abdullah II sent his condolences to the Egyptian people and the families of the killed police personnel, affirming his country’s support to Egypt against terrorism.

Security forces clashed and exchanged fire with the terrorists, leaving a number of them dead or wounded. Fourteen police officers were killed and others injured while hunting terrorists on Friday in an oasis in Giza governorate, security sources said on Friday.

The sources added that the security forces headed to the oasis after receiving information that terrorist elements were hiding there.

Egypt’s Attorney General Nabil Sadek directed on Saturday the State Security Prosecution to investigate the terrorist attack.

A team of prosecutors went to hospitals where the injured personnel are receiving treatment, according to a statement issued by the General Prosecution Office on Saturday.
