Submarine ‘42’ and corvette Al-Fateh join Egyptian navy

Cairo – October 20: The commander in chief of the Egyptian navy, General Ahmed Khaled, said in a press conference on Friday that two German submarines and a French GOWIND corvette called “Al-Fateh” joined the Egyptian navy.

Al-Fateh is manufactured by French company Naval Group and is part of a deal to manufacture four corvettes for the Egyptian navy, one in France and three in Egypt, Al-Ahram reported.

The general added during the conference that the deal between Egypt and France is part of developing a strong industrial navy base in Egypt.

The new units participated in a joint drills in the Pacific Oceanbetween Egypt and France. The units also partook in the navy performance “Zat el Sawary,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of Egypt’s modern navy.

According to Khaled, the Egyptian Ship and Repair Company produced two coastal passages, part of the joint manufacturing program with the U.S.

General Khaled assured that new military navy bases were established according to the world’s latest trends in building military bases. He added that towers will secure maritime navigation and will secure the movement of vessels from one naval base to the other. Khaled added that there is an integrated plan to develop the administrative and technical support of the navy.
