CAIRO – 19 October 2017: The Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian navy, Vice-Admiral Ahmed Khaled, stated on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Egyptian Naval Day Thursday that terrorism is Egypt’s main enemy.

Khaled declared that the navy is seeking to dry up the sources of terrorism on the military and intellectual level.

He added that the “naval forces play a vital role in cutting off terrorists’ supply lines;” hindering them from transporting fighters and arming across seas. The naval forces also act decisively against any terroristic aggression.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived Thursday at Alexandria’s naval base to attend the “Zat Al-Sawari” naval drills carried out by the Egyptian navy.

“Zat al-Sawari” maneuvers are meant to raise the capabilities of the naval forces in confronting potential maritime threats.

Sisi will also raise the Egyptian flag aboard a number of newly joined naval vessels that will officially enter service.

On October 21, Egypt celebrates the day one of their warships sunk the Israeli destroyer INS Eilat in 1967. The Egyptian navy became the first in the world to sink a ship using anti-ship missiles; thus commemorating the day henceforth as the Egyptian Naval Day.
