CAIRO – 16 October 2017: Hamas’ movement condemned the terrorist attack that targeted military personnel in North Sinai on Sunday, stated the movement’s spokesperson Fawzy Barhoumy in a statement on Monday.

“This terrorist act aims to undermine Egypt’s stability. We wish security, safety and prosperity for Egypt and its people,” Barhoumy.

Six army troops were killed in a military operation conducted on Sunday in North Sinai against terrorist elements.

During the operation, 24 militants were killed and another one was injured when law enforcement forces thwarted a failed terrorist attempt aimed at targeting checkpoints in al-Qawadis district, North Sinai on Sunday. Two four-by-four vehicles belonging to the terrorists were also destroyed.

Security forces are still combing the area for any further terrorist hotbed.
