CAIRO – 14 October 2017: The North Cairo prosecution detained the suspect of killing an Egyptian pastor for four days pending investigations.

A Coptic priest, called Smaan Shehata Rizkallah, was stabbed to death Thursday in the Cairo neighborhood of El Marg, the latest deadly assault on the country's Christian minority.

Security officials said the attacker struck the priest's head with a cleaver and fled the scene, but he was later arrested.

Egypt was rocked this year by two bomb blasts in churches in Alexandria and Tanta as worshippers celebrated Palm Sunday. Around 30 worshippers are thought to have been killed and at least 78 were injured.
