CAIRO – 12 October 2017: "The Hamas movement is serious and sincere in ending the Palestinian division and achieving national reconciliation," said Saleh al-Arouri, deputy head of the Hamas political bureau.

Palestine’s two political rivals, Fatah and Hamas, signed a reconciliation accord Thursday in Cairo, which is to hand the Concession Government operating the administration affairs of Rafah border before December 1.

During a press conference held with a member of the Fatah Central Committee, Azzam al-Ahmad and Arouri contended that Egypt’s positive stance towards the Palestinian issue has been the same all the way, crediting the current Egyptian leadership’s efforts in patching up the long-simmering division.

"There are no new agreements signed,” Arouri said, adding that what is currently happening is that the two parties, side by side, are ensuring that the agreement signed in 2011 in Cairo is taking effect.”

Aarouri concluded by confirming that that there is no choice for Hamas and Fatah but to proceed with the reconciliation; affirming Hamas’ genuine intentions, which are demonstrated in their agreement to waive their control over the Gaza Strip.
