FM call his counterparts to support Khattab for UNESCO

Cairo – October 7: Egyptian minister of foreign policy, Sameh Shoukry, made intensive phone calls on Friday to a number of foreign policy ministers of the UNESCO executive board members’ countries. He asked for support for Egyptian candidate Moushira Khattab for UNESCO director general. The elections that will take place on Monday, foreign ministry spokes person, Ahmed Abu Zaid, told Egypt Today on Saturday.

Abu Zaid mentioned that Shoukry met on Friday with members of the campaign to discuss how to deal with the different scenarios that could happen during the election.




Abu Zaid tweeted on Thursday “On the Way to Paris with foreign ministry minister to support electing minister Moushira Khattab before the voting process starts.

Moreover, he mentioned that Shoukry will continue on Saturday and Sunday with more calls with his counterparts of UNESCO executive board members’ countries. The board includes the membership of 85 countries, 17 of them are

African

* countries and 7 are Arab countries.

Additionally, he said that Shoukry will meet the Chairperson of the African Union Commission,

Moussa Faqih*

, on Saturday, and the UNESCO member delegates of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain.

Shoukry met on Friday with Permanent delegates of the African group countries, where they renewed their support for Egypt’s candidate running for the UNESCO top pos, FM mentioned on Friday.
