CAIRO – 6 October 2017: Egypt and Italy have a lot to do to protect mutual economic, political, cultural and security interests, Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Hisham Badr stated Friday during an event organized by the Ministry of Tourism marking the Holy Family’s route in Egypt.

Badr emphasized that a “diplomatic partnership between Rome and Cairo is essential to face regional challenges.”

He further added, “our partnership is also decisive on the regional level, managing immigration flows, fighting terrorism, and even in the Libyan case,” the official Italian News Agency ANSA reported.

“We will achieve a clear and transparent cooperation… and the routes of the Holy Family in Egypt tour program represents a great success to our cooperation,” he said.

Pope Francis on Wednesday organized a special greeting in Rome for a high-level Egyptian delegation led by Tourism Minister Yahya Rashid to promote pilgrimage in the footsteps of the Holy Family’s Flight into Egypt.

The pope’s blessing comes as a mandatory step in the process of initiating the Roman Catholic pilgrimage program to Egypt, which is set to launch next year.
