CAIRO – 4 October 2017: The Council of Ministers agreed to amend some provisions of law No. 45 for year 1982 regarding the diplomatic and consular corps’ financial and administrative aspects.

The amendments were introduced to the legislation section of the State Council in 2016 to review and to set an appropriate legal formula.

One of the amended provisions is that the members of the diplomatic and consular corps should be more than seven ambassadors, instead of the 11 ambassadors in the old legal text.

When President Hosni Mubarak came to power in 1981, the ministry witnessed a comprehensive reform process. The law related to the diplomatic and consular corps was modified for the first time in 30 years. Consequently, law No. 45 for year 1982 regarding the corps was issued to cope with the new prospects of Egyptian diplomatic and consular relations, according to the two Vienna Conventions on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, which Egypt joined in the 1960s, stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
