Egypt, S. Sudan probe promoting bilateral cooperation

CAIRO – 30 September 2017: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati has met with his South Sudanese counterpart Sophia Pal Gai along with her accompanying delegation, currently on a visit to Egypt.

This visit, which started on Sept 29 through Oct 3, comes within the framework of the technical cooperation projects between Cairo and Juba, which include a set of development projects, Abdel Aati said.

The projects include dlrs 26.6 million grant from Egypt in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed between the two ministries on August 18, 2006. The MOU was later followed by a technical cooperation protocol inked on March 28, 2011 in addition to the technical and development cooperation agreement signed in November 2014 in Cairo in the presence of the Egyptian and South Sudanese presidents.

Meanwhile, the two ministers went on a tour of the New Valley and Fayoum in order to inspect the irrigation ministry’s various projects in the two governorates, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation said in a Saturday statement.

Abdel Aati noted that the bilateral cooperation projects have achieved success, pointing to the implementation of development projects with the aim of serving residents of South Sudan’s isolated areas.
