CAIRO – 21 September, 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi was invited by Bolivia to attend the fourth Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) due to convene in November 20-24, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid on Thursday on his Twitter account.

The Invitation was handed from the Bolivian Energy Minister to Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on the sidelines of the 27nd round of the United Nations General Assembly meetings (UNGA 27) in New York, Abu Zeid added.

The GECF is an international organization for the world leading gas producers to exchange their experience.

In 2015, Eni has discovered the largest natural gas field in the Mediterranean, called Zohr. The field has an area of 100 square meters at a depth of 1,450 meters.

The field will start production at three phases. The first will be launched in a few months with an output of one billion cubic feet per day (ft2). When all seven fields are complete by 2019, this amount will increase to 2.7 billion ft2.

The field is expected to secure Egypt’s domestic needs of gas after it has become a net importer of gas following a cut in production after the January revolution.
