Sisi, U.N. Secretary General discuss numerous issues

CAIRO - 21 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met on Wednesday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the sidelines of the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York, said Presidency spokesperson, Alaa Youssef in official statement.

During the meeting, Sisi stressed on Egypt’s support for the United Nations efforts in ‘international peace, security and sustainable development,’ the statement reads.

For his part, the UN Secretary-General expressed his appreciation to ‘the extended cooperation between Egypt and the United Nations,’ asserting Egypt's ‘outstanding performance’ during its current membership of the UN’s Security Council, as well as its pivotal role in Middle East.

Sisi and Guterres meeting also tackled the latest developments in the region, including Libya, Syria and the Palestinian-Israeli peace process, as well as ways to counter terrorism.


On Sunday, 17 September, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived in New York to participate in the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations.


During his visit, Sisi held talks with the U.S. President Trump as, well as several American and Arab political officials including a high level American delegation, UAE’s Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, and Saudi’s Ambassador to Washington Khaled bin Salman Al-Saud.
