CAIRO - 20 September 2017: Romanian Ambassador to Cairo Mihai Stefan said on Wednesday that Romanian President Klaus Iohannis expressed appreciation of good relations binding his country and Egypt.

The Romanian president met with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, on the fringe of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, to mark 111 years on establishing diplomatic relations.

Stefan told MENA that both sides discussed relations between Egypt and the European Union (EU) on one side and between Egypt and Romania on the other.

As well, the meeting tackled issues related to the global agenda including cooperation to counter terrorism and settle Libyan and Syrian conflicts, Stefan noted.

Both presidents agreed to exchange visits aiming at improving joint political dialogue on the highest level, the Romanian ambassador said, adding that Iohannis voiced his country's appreciation for Egypt's vital role in achieving stability in the Middle East.

Iohannis also expressed hope to boost economic cooperation with Egypt, the Romanian ambassador further said.

During the meeting, Sisi stressed the importance of bilateral relations especially in the economic field, expressing appreciation to the Romania's continued support for Egypt including the field of transferring expertise in the process of democratization as well as relations with the UN, the Romanian ambassador added.
