CAIRO – 20 September 2017: Ukrainian Ambassador in Cairo Hennadii Latii said his country is interested in activating cooperation with Egypt.

Speaking in a ceremony to mark Ukrainian National Day Tuesday night, Latii talked about chances to boost cooperation with Cairo in the fields of investment, trade, tourism and scientific research.

He considered Egypt an important political and trade partner of Ukraine in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 2.3 billion dollars in 2016, the diplomat said.

Kiev supports efforts exerted by the Egyptian government to counter terrorism, noting that Ukraine has recently witnessed criminal and terrorist acts which inflicted huge losses on the economy, he added.

Being non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Egypt and Ukraine cooperate in numerous international issues, Latii noted.

He voiced hope over exchanging visits between the two governments in the coming phase especially that the two countries are celebrating this year the 25th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

The diplomat also underlined the importance of maintaining stability and security in Egypt, noting that Ukraine has not suspended its tourism trips to Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada and Ukrainian tourists are on the rise year after year.
