CAIRO, Sept 18 (MENA) - Egypt's and Africa’s nominee for UNESCO chief post Moushira Khattab met on Monday with European ambassadors of member states of UNISCO'S executive board accredited in Cairo.

The meeting was chaired by Cameroon’s ambassador to Cairo who is acting as the dean of the African diplomatic corps and was attended by Guinea's ambassador as a representative for the AU chairmanship, along with the AU ambassador to the Arab League, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry.

The meeting aimed at massively promoting the African official nomination to the top UNESCO post, a statement read.

A number of Egyptian senior officials from the ministry of foreign affairs attended the meeting.

The dean of the diplomatic corps said at the beginning of the meeting that the African continent is supporting its official candidate for the post of UNESCO director-general.

He and Guinea's ambassador affirmed that great efforts have been exerted to promote this nomination in different cities as Africa is keen on getting this position.

He pointed out that the considerable experience of Moushira Khattab made her the best representative of the continent.

The AU ambassador to the Arab League urged the participants to vote for her within the framework of strong relations binding their countries with the African ones.

During the meeting, Egypt’s ambassadors asserted Egypt's cultural and intellectual heritage which qualify it to be the UNESCO director-general.

Moushira Khattab reviewed key points of her electoral program and the main ideas aiming at improving the organization to be able to play its role in a better way.
