CAIRO - 10 September 2017: The opposition judge in the Maadi court renewed the detention of Deputy Governor of Alexandria Soad al-Kholy, and 6 others, for 15 days on charges of bribery and corruption.

On August 27, 2017, Egyptian security forces arrested deputy governor of Alexandria in the General Office of Alexandria Governorate, as well as 5 businessmen included in the case, with charges including bribery and exploiting public funds.

Investigations confirmed that al-Kholy, who has served as deputy since 2015, received money, material gifts, and gold jewelry worth more than LE 1 million ($56,484) from businessmen in return for engaging in exploitative practices, which caused losses to public funds worth about LE 10 million.
