CAIRO – 7 September 2017: At Asyut University, Dean Ahmed Abdu stated that the institution terminated six teaching staff members for connections with the terror group.

This has come as a consequence of the Ministry of Education’s campaign to eradicate the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood members from teaching positions before the 2017-2018 academic year starts.

Abdu stressed that the university bars any partisan activities on campus grounds, solely allowing extracurricular activities like trips and volunteering teams. On December 25, 2013, the Brotherhood was deemed a terror group by the Egyptian authorities following a bloody terrorist attack on the security directorate of Dakahlia in the Delta triangle, leaving 16 dead and over 150 wounded.

Cairo University took the lead in the filtration process when it announced last week that four professors were suspended for alleged affiliations with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Investigations with the suspended professors, who are members of the Chemistry department at the Faculty of Science, are scheduled to begin Sunday, where they will be questioned for participating in a Muslim Brotherhood conference in Germany.
