CANBERRA - 6 Sep 2017: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark Diocese inaugurated Wednesday the expansion project of St Mark the Apostle church in Canberra in Australia.

The pope was briefed on the details of the expansion project.

He placed a copy of the Bible, a cross, coins and a document signed by him at the project site.

Churchgoers warmly welcomed the pope who answered their questions.

The pope - who arrived in Canberra coming from Sydney earlier in the day - visited Melborne Diocese within the framework of his pastoral tour to Australia.

The pope's visit to Australia is the first since his inauguration in November 2012.
